In today’s episode, we’re diving deeper into a topic that’s close to my heart: conscious parenting! If you missed the last episode, we talked about generational healing. This is the perfect continuation of that conversation, so if you haven’t already, go back and check out episode 16 before diving into today!
I had the pleasure of speaking with Sapna Rad, a certified conscious parenting coach, NLP practitioner, and author of “Yelling to Zenning.” Sapna is a parenting coach specializing in working with parents of teenagers. She is dedicated to empowering parents to create harmonious relationships with their teens, effectively ending power struggles.
Her approach is centered on helping parents build deep, meaningful connections with both themselves and those around them. With Sapna’s guidance, parents learn to wake up every morning with less worry and more joy, fostering a family environment filled with understanding and strong bonds.
Our conversation started with a focus on healing and the desire of every parent to do their best for their children. We discussed the importance of having meaningful conversations and connections with our kids, helping them grow without inhibiting their development. Sapna shared a personal story about a moment of ‘mind hijacking’ at a Costco parking lot, which led to a profound realization about the impact of our mental state on our children.
Sapna explained the concept of conscious parenting, a method that emphasizes the parent’s responsibility to first raise themselves before they can effectively raise their child. This approach integrates psychology and mindfulness, combining the best of Eastern and Western cultures. It’s about acknowledging and becoming aware of our patterns and asking ourselves if they are truly serving us and our children.
We also delved into the subconscious mind’s role in parenting, discussing how our automated responses and emotions can often take over, leading to unintended consequences in our interactions with our children. Sapna emphasized the importance of being aware of the stories our children create about these interactions and how these narratives can impact their adult lives.
